Destruction as a Goal?––The Friday Show

October 22, 2022

CLR Show 1771. Air Date October 21, 2022. In the rush to support Donald's lies  for the sake of election victories and political power, the MAGA Republicans have backed themselves into a dreadful corner. Is the only remaining route to, and expression of power the destruction of entity they seek to represent? Has Donald's clinical narcissism so infected his facilitators that they have inadvertently committed themselves on an unswerving path to minimize or eliminate all that is not Donald himself in the name of tacitly 'saving' the country? With Friday Co-Host––Davis Bach.

Donald’s Real Game

Donald’s Real Game

October 14, 2022

CLR Show 1770. Air Date, October 14, 2022.  The January 6th Committee's final hearing produced the strongest evidence yet that the true goal of the Trump insurrection was not just to stop the vote count, but to invoke the Insurrection Act and impose nation-wide martial law after the murders of members of Congress. Of course that would have lead to a military takeover of the country and the suspension of the Constitution. And it's still a possibility... unless Donald is indicted, convicted and punished for any one of his many crimes at the earliest possible date, and prevented from assuming future office.

History as a Competitive Sport?

History as a Competitive Sport?

October 11, 2022

CLR Show 1769. Air Date October 10, 2022. Yes, Columbus was a creep on many levels and, yes, the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas deserve recognition both for their contributions and their suffering. The issue is, should we recognize the former in lieu of the latter? Should Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day be positioned as dueling holidays? Are Italian Americans less deserving of a cultural identity day than, say, German Americans? Complicated questions, and the jury is still out. With Co-Host, David Bach.

Putin Is Dead Serious

Putin Is Dead Serious

October 7, 2022

CLR Show 1768. Air Date October 7, 2022.  Since the end of the second world war, nuclear posturing has been used to gain political leverage, although we came close to unintended disaster during the Cuban missile crisis. Now, Vladimir Putin appears to be consciously and compulsively backing himself and Russia into the inevitable use of tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine and Europe. The results would be catastrophic beyond comprehension.  We can only hope there are cooler heads operating behind closed doors and in the back channels of power.

Future Shock

Future Shock

October 4, 2022

CLR Show 1767. Air Date October 4, 2022.  The leaders of the republican party have squandered their opportunity to blunt the impending trauma of Donald's indictment(s) and inevitable conviction(s) for the base. And they will do even less to actively defend Donald during his final demise. The question remains: What follows the demise of the current republican party? A period of heightened political violence? A rational successor organization? Entirely new political party/parties? Or a series of internally warring splinter groups claiming to be the rightful successor to and bearer of the flickering Trumpian torch? Through it all, thoughtful Americans must not lose hope.

The Longer Road to Hope

The Longer Road to Hope

September 30, 2022

CLR Show 1766. Air Date September 30, 2022. The current spate of political, military and environmental negatives enveloping the planet would suggest an inevitable surrender to the hopelessness of our situation. But, throughout human history, hopelessness has always been the prelude to hope and rebuilding. It's just that the road to hope is always a bit longer than its counterpart. Why not simply choose to bypass the ugliness of presumed failure and inevitable self-destruction, and get on with the business of hopeful problem solving ... for a change?

Putin’s Diminishing Options: A special Noble Hearts Forum

September 23, 2022

CLR Show 1765. Air Date September 23, 2022.  Our Panel examines the increasingly limited and unsavory military options available to Vladimir Putin as Russia falters on the battlefield, together with the enormous stresses on, and possible reactions that should be anticipated from Russia's supreme leader. Sobering insights and must-listen material for all fans of Center Left Radio. With Dr. Charles Webel, Dr. Richard Corelli and John Cugini

Subtracting Donald

Subtracting Donald

September 20, 2022

CLR Show 1764. Air Date September 20, 2022. Assuming the obvious––that Donald will be indicted, tried and convicted for the crimes he has committed––why must we hold ourselves captive to the mob-inspired notion that America will be 'punished' if justice is done? This has been Donald's thesis from the beginning and it is at odds with everything American. The more important question is: what punishment fits his crimes?  And how can we relegate him to insignificance––if not obscurity––in the most expeditious way possible?

’My People Won’t Stand For It’: The Friday Show

September 16, 2022

CLR Show 1763. Air Date September 16, 2022.  Donald has reached the unvarnished threat stage, declaring yesterday that, if indicted, his 'people would never stand for it' and that 'you'll experience problems like this country has never seen before.' That would, hopefully, be pure hyperbole on his part. Still, 1/6 actually happened, and was a reaction to a similar Trump call to arms. With Friday Co-Host, David Bach.

The Re-Dignifying of America?

The Re-Dignifying of America?

September 9, 2022

CLR Show 1762. Air Date August 9, 2022. As we contemplate the dignity and grace of the late Queen Elizabeth, is it too soon––or simply too much––to consider a possible re-dignifying of America?  After the indictment, trial, conviction and sentencing of Donald, might President Biden offer a commutation of his sentence alone (based on a number of fiscal, physical and political restrictions) on the condition that Donald freely and openly admit to his crimes? Yes, the latter is highly unlikely. But might such an offer set an appropriate, dignified precedent for future American presidents?
